ID released for homicide victim found on side of Cherokee County road

CHEROKEE COUNTY Texas (KLTV) - UPDATE: The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office have identified a man whose body was found lying on the side of the road and said his death is the result of an apparent homicide.

According to a press release, at approximately 6:58 a.m. Friday, Cherokee County Sheriff Office received a 911 call in regards to a individual laying on the side of CR 3906 at the intersection of CR 3901.

The release said upon the Sheriff’s Office arrival, the subject was found to be deceased from apparent homicide.

The deceased was later identified as Randy Davenport, 25 years old of Jacksonville TX.

The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office requests that if anyone has any information regarding this homicide, please contact the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office at 903-683-2271 or Crime Stoppers at 903-586-7861.

PREVIOUS: The Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a man’s body was found near the intersection of County Road 3901 and CR 3905 Friday morning.

Captain Fred Butler said that they received a 911 call about a man’s body lying on a county road north of Jacksonville at about 7 a.m. Friday morning. Butler said when CCSO deputies arrived at the scene, they found blood around the body, and the man was unresponsive.

Pct. 3 Justice of the Peace Philip Grimes pronounced the man dead at the scene, Butler said.

Butler said the deputies at the scene called in the CCSO Criminal Investigation Division to investigate the man’s death. He said they will release the man’s name after his next of kin have been notified.
