DPS releases name of victim in Thursday morning FM 14 fatality wreck

SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to the scene of a fatal two-vehicle crash on FM 14 near County Road 38 in Smith County.

DPS Sgt. Jean Dark released the following statement Thursday evening:

Troopers responded to a two vehicle fatal crash at 11:37 a.m. on FM 14, approximately two miles north of the city of Tyler in Smith County.  The investigators preliminary report indicates that the driver of a 2014 Lincoln MKZ, John Anthony Scott, 37, of Tyler was traveling northbound on FM 14 while the driver of a 2009 Freightliner oversized load truck tractor semi-trailer, Wade James Jackson, 47, of Scotland was traveling southbound on the same roadway.  For an undetermined reason, the passenger car crossed over the center no passing zone line and collided into the semi-trailer.

Scott was pronounced at the scene by Judge Shamburger and taken to Lighthouse Mortuary in Tyler.

Jackson was treated and released at the scene.  A passenger in his vehicle, Mitchell Ryan Steinberger, 28, of Scotland was also treated and released at the scene by emergency medical personnel.

The crash remains under investigation.
