Tyler man answers door to pointed gun, gunman dies after struggle

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Tyler police are investigating an overnight shooting in the 600 block of West Vance Street in Tyler.

From Tyler Police Department:

On July 9th around midnight, the Tyler Police Department received a call from EMS stating that they had responded to a call at 608 W. Vance St and found a person deceased with a gunshot wound.

A male was found lying in front of the residence with a single gunshot wound to his chest. He was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Quincy Beavers and transported to the Southwest Institute of Forensic Sciences in Dallas for autopsy.

Draveon Tykeith McCullough, 21, of Tyler, has been identified as the person who died.

The resident stated someone knocked on his door and when he answered the door, a gun was pointed at him and a struggle ensued. During the struggle the deceased was shot.

The investigation uncovered a substantial amount of narcotics at the scene.

The identity of the deceased is pending notification of family.

Tyler Police Officers, Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators responded to the scene. This incident is still under investigation.
