8-year-old girl killed in crash on Toll 49

SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - UPDATE: DPS says a 8-year-old girl died in a two-vehicle crash on Toll 49 Monday.
According to DPS, at 8:29 a.m. Monday, troopers responded to a two-vehicle fatal crash on Toll-49 south of Hwy-64W in Smith County. The investigators preliminary report indicates that the driver of a 2018 Mazda CX5, Daisy Pineda, 28, of Lindale, was traveling south on Toll-49 at a speed that was unsafe for the roadway conditions. The driver lost control of the vehicle and traveled into the path of a north bound Dodge 2500 pick-up towing a trailer driven by Steven Joseph Worl, 69, of Whitehouse. The vehicles collided causing extensive damage to both.
DPS said Pineda was transported to Christus Trinity Mother Francis Hospital – Tyler in critical condition. A female 2-year-old child in the vehicle was transported to Christus Trinity Mother Francis Hospital – Tyler in serious condition. An 8-year-old female child was pronounced at the scene by Judge Andy Dunklin and was transported to Lighthouse Funeral Home in Tyler.
DPS said Worl was transported to UT-Health – Tyler in stable condition.
The crash remains under investigation.
PREVIOUS: DPS troopers and emergency crews have Toll 49 shut down south of State Highway 64 following a fatal wreck.
According to DPS spokeswoman Jean Dark, at least one person is dead in the two-vehicle wreck.
Traffic is blocked in all directions and is being rerouted.
