HENDERSON COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - Over the weekend, motorists were shot at by two male juveniles with an air rifle destroying car windows.
This happened on Highway 31 in the Crescent Heights area of Henderson County.
KLTV’s Dante Nuñez describes the events according to Shawn Himes, a Malakoff resident whose car window was shot. The two boys have been charged with deadly conduct.
Shawn Himes, Malakoff resident, was headed towards Athens when he discovered his back window was shot out.
“All of a sudden I heard a big pop, a big slap on the side of my vehicle. I looked back and my window was spiderweb really bad. At first, I thought it was a freak accident,” Himes said.
Kevin Halbert, chief deputy with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office says, two juveniles were charged with deadly conduct.
Himes says he was shocked.
"I was like there was no way somebody around here was shooting at vehicles, that never really entered my mind until the next day which that’s when I started seeing the Facebook posts,” he said.
Halbert says around a dozen vehicles were shot at by two boys. Some of them had their families inside.
Himes says he’s grateful he wasn’t hurt and he’s glad the boys were not aiming their weapons on the highway
"I’m pretty happy with it. I’m glad that they were able to get those two kids out of the possibility of doing it to somebody else. I’m glad it’s not going to happen anymore. Hopefully,” he said.
Himes car will remain in the shop as they work on replacing the window.
