Tyler City Council to consider resolution to add traffic signal on South Broadway Avenue
TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Cliff Lasseter has seen a lot of things change since he opened his barbershop on South Broadway in Tyler 51 years ago, which includes an increase in traffic.
"I remember when we didn’t have no traffic until Christmas,” Lasseter said.
A new traffic light could be coming in front of the Rose Plaza Shopping Center, which is near his business. Lasseter says the new light would make it easier to cross the often-congested street.
"The traffic is so bad, you’re taking your life in your own hands trying to get out on Broadway. You can’t get over to Cane’s chicken or you can’t go around to Cotton Patch, all those places because you can’t get across,” Lasseter said.
The possibility of the new signal comes as developers propose to revamp the Rose Plaza Shopping Center. The city says a traffic study found the new signal is needed to accommodate the redevelopment.
“It might slow traffic down a little bit, it might save lives too. I’ve seen them take people to the hospital,” Lasseter said.
