GREGG COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - The second annual Gregg County Youth Expo is under way.
Ag students from around Gregg County have been working hard on their livestock, mechanics and baking projects through 4-H or FFA. The expo gives them a chance to show off their projects in a friendly competition. It was being held at the Sabine ISD AG Farm next to Lone Star Speedway. Senior Sony Whalen and his team took a first place ribbon for building a deer stand.
“And it’s always fun because like my dad was up there helping me so it was fun having a project with my dad since he’s gone a lot for work. And then my buddies also, even their dads came in so it’s a big father son time. And even my mom, I mean she helped out a lot too; moral support and getting snacks and stuff for all the boys up there. So it was late nights and early mornings but it really paid off so that’s why I enjoy it. It’s a good bonding time,” said Whalen.
They got the show done early so students and parents wouldn’t get caught in the weather. A ribbon sale is being held at noon on Saturday at Sabine Elementary to help the students with financing.
