Early Signing Day 2019: Student-athletes around area make college choices

EAST TEXAS (KLTV/KTRE) - Early Signing Day 2019 had plenty of big-time high school recruits in East Texas signing their names on national letters of intent.

High School students and college transfers had from Wednesday, Dec. 18 to Friday, Dec. 20 to sign a letter of intent to play college football. If they do not sign in the three-day window, they will have to wait until February to sign.

Alto Senior Cayle Irvin was the first East Texas player to sign on Early Signing Day. Irvin will be going to Bethel College to play football. After his college career, he looks to move into coaching like his father and current Alto assistant coach Jimmy Irvin.

Irvin helped lead Alto to a perfect regular season and an 11-1 overall record. He was the district Defensive Player of the Year. He was also All district in 2018. He has been honorable mention all-state the past two seasons and he was academic all-state the past two years.
