TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Blue Santa pairs local law enforcement officers with deserving children for an evening of holiday shopping.
First responders will take more than 250 Smith County children shopping on Dec. 17. Each child will have $100 to spend at Walmart.
It’s all thanks to the Tyler Police Department’s “Blue Santa” program. The youngsters will each get a hundred dollars to spend in any way they please at the Walmart on Troup Highway. Members from all over East Texas law enforcement will escort the kids as they make their choices.
While the kids get whatever they want with the hundred. It is the officers that get the real blessing.
“It’s almost like they are our children and we love doing it. You get attached. So, it is an additional blessing from this program,” Officer Chuck Boyce with Tyler PD said.
Blue Santa will be Tuesday, December 17 at 6 p.m. The children will be scheduled for different time slots for their shopping.
