Man escapes burning home in Smith County without injury

SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - One house is burning and a second was thought to be threatened by the nearby fire in Smith County Wednesday night.

Numerous departments are at the scene off of Highway 31 on CR 3159, including Jackson Heights, Chapel Hill and Winona fire departments, and the fire marshal’s office has been called to the scene.

Assistant Fire Marshal Chad Hogue said the goal was to contain the fire to the first home so it would not be able to reach other structures. He said that when he is able to see the structures in the light he will know more about any damage to nearby structures.

Our reporter at the scene said that one house is completely destroyed, and a vehicle also burned up. The woman who lives in the home said her son was inside when the fire started, but he was able to get out safely.

There were no injuries reported.
