GREGG COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - The remnant of an old shackle discovered on a Longview man’s property has been donated to the Gregg County Historical Museum with the intent of putting it on display in the future.

The iron ball was part of a ball and chain shackle set, which was commonly attached to a prisoner’s ankle to keep them from escaping while outside of prison walls.

KLTV 7′s Jamey Boyum spoke with the museum docent about what they know about the mysterious iron ball, where they believe it came from, and the fate of the prisoner who made his escape.
