Longview police identify man who died in officer-involved shooting
LONGVIEW, TEXAS (KLTV) - Longview police have identified a man who died in an officer-involved shooting Wednesday.
Police say Detravian Allison, 18, died in the incident. The department released a statement on the case Wednesday afternoon, describing the events that led up to incident.
About 10:40 a.m., officers responded to a business in the 400 block of West Loop 281 regarding a criminal trespass. Police say the employee told an officer that a man made threats before leaving the location. Officers obtained the man’s vehicle description and license plate number that matched a vehicle reported stolen in an Aug. 2 aggravated robbery.
Officers searched retail parking lots and apartment complexes.
About 11 a.m., officers went to the Longview Square Apartments in the 1600 block of Pine Tree Road to search for the stolen vehicle. According to the police department, the vehicle was found in the parking lot, in the possession of two males.
Police say one of the men was armed with a handgun.
“He raised and pointed the pistol at the officers, and the officers then fired striking the man,” the statement reads.
The man, later identified as Allison, was transported to a hospital by ambulance where he later died from his injuries.
“The officers involved in this incident will be placed on paid administrative leave while the matter is investigated by the DPS Texas Rangers,” the statement reads.
The Gregg County District Attorney’s Office was also at the scene.
