Smith County deputies arrest suspects who barricaded themselves in building Thursday afternoon

FLINT, TX (KLTV) - The Smith County Sheriff’s Office is responding to a barricade situation in the Flint area.

From the Smith County Sheriff’s Office:

On Wednesday afternoon, April 18, 2019 at 12:51 p.m. Smith County Sheriff’s Patrol Deputies were dispatched to 11433 CR 137 in Flint, Texas regarding a warrant service call. Deputies had received information that Gregory Colin Morrison, 44 was at this location with a warrant for his arrest. Prior to arrival, it was confirmed that Morrison had a Felony Bond Forfeiture warrant with an original charge of Possession of Controlled Substance PG 1 > = 1 G < 4 G.

Upon arrival to this location, deputies observed a metal building where Morrison was alleged to be residing. They were able to make contact with a female, Rachel Gutierrez, 26, who communicated with deputies through the front door. Deputies were also able to determine that Morrison was inside the building. and set up a perimeter. Several attempts to establish communication with Morrison were unsuccessful, so a decision was made to deploy Smith County SWAT.

Upon arrival to this location, Deputies observed a metal building where Morrison was alleged to be residing. They were able to make contact with a female, Rachel Gutierrez, 26, who communicated with deputies through the front door. Deputies were also able to determine that Morrison was inside the building. and set up a perimeter. Several attempts to establish communication with Morrison were unsuccessful, so a decision was made to deploy Smith County SWAT.

Upon the arrival of SWAT, numerous attempts to gain compliance were utilized, including the use of a loud speaker. After several more minutes, it became clear that neither Morrison nor Gutierrez were going to comply with lawful orders to surrender. The SWAT members then breached a window on the south side of the building. Shortly thereafter, both Morrison and Gutierrez exited out of a bay door on the south side of the building and surrendered.

Both Gregory Morrison and Rachel Gutierrez were taken into custody and transported to the Smith County Jail. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.

Gregory Morrison was booked into jail for the listed warrant and Rachel Gutierrez was charged with Hindering Apprehension (Felony 3). No bonds have been set at this time on either charge.

According to Public Information Officer Larry Christian, deputies were attempting to serve a warrant at a residence on County Road 137. The man allegedly then barricaded himself.
