LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - The Lufkin Panthers will have the majority of their games inside Abe Martin Stadium in 2019.
Athletic Director and Head Football coach Todd Quick released the schedule on Tuesday. The season will start the way it has in recent years with a showdown against Longview on August 30.
“it is tough to play here and it is tough to play there,” Quick said. “You fight your tail off when you go there and they will do the same. It is a good measure to see where you are at. The kids will play hard.”
On September 6, the Pack will travel north for the oldest rivalry in East Texas when they play the Nacogdoches Dragons and new head coach Darren Allman. The following week the team returns home to play Redskins Del Estado from Mexico.
After three weeks, the Pack will have their bye and then start there defense of their 18-5A District Championship. The first week of district will be September 27, which is homecoming, against Willis. October 4, Lufkin take their longest road trip of the year at that point when they will play in Magnolia. In what could decide the district title, October 11 will be a matchup at home against College Station. The next week Lufkin will go out west of Houston to play Tomball.
October 25 brings a contest against Magnolia West. Friday November 1 Lufkin will play in Conroe against Caney Creek. The regular season will come to an end on November 8 against Waller at home.
“We had four head coaching changes in the Spring so there is a little bit of movement in the district,” Quick said. “There are some questions about what are they going to do now but it will clear up.”
Last year, Lufkin went undefeated in district with their only losses coming week 1 against Longview and in the area round against Frisco Lone Star.
