WOOD COUNTY, TX - One person died and two others were injured in a Saturday morning crash north of Hawkins.
At 10:42 a.m. Saturday, Texas Department of Public Safety troopers responded to a two-vehicle crash on FM 14, about 2 miles outside of Hawkins.
One person, identified as Steven Joseph Almanza, 28, of Dallas, died in the crash.
According to a preliminary crash investigation, Emily Catherine Moore, 17, of Hawkins, was traveling south on FM 14 when the vehicle hydroplaned and crossed into the northbound lane.
Moore’s vehicle struck a 2005 Toyota Highlander, driven by Almanza.
DPS says Almanza was transported to a hospital in Tyler where he later died. A passenter in his vehicle, identified as Jenny Paine, 31, of Dallas, was transported to a Tyler hospital with serious injuries.
Moore was also transported to a Tyler hospital where she was treated and released.
All three were wearing seatbelts, the report shows.
The crash remains under investigation.
