TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Smith County has approved a tax abatement for a company looking to expand its operations in the City of Tyler.

Homeland Title is considering constructing a 20,000 sq. ft headquarters office building on the corner of Old Jacksonville Highway and Rice Road.

Homeland Title was established in Tyler in 2008 and expanded in 2009. Homeland has since added a branch office in Mt. Pleasant and expanded operations to Houston opening 5 offices, with two more scheduled to open in 2019.

The new headquarters would create 24 new jobs for those in the Smith County area over 4 years and retain 20 current jobs. However, Homeland is also considering Sugar Land for this project.

As part of an incentive, the Smith County Commissioners Court approved a four-year tiered tax abatement for the headquarters construction project on April 9. The Tyler City Council also approved a tax abatement in March.
