Whitehouse ISD releases statement after student drowns on Lake Tyler

WHITEHOUSE, TX (KLTV) - UPDATE: The Whitehouse Independent School District confirmed that one of their students died after an accidental drowning on Lake Tyler Tuesday.

According to the school district, Junior Ti’Auje’ Reaves (T.J.) was involved in an accidental drowning on Lake Tyler after completing school for the day.

The district also said there was no foul play involved. They said their thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this difficult time. Counselors will be available to staff and students throughout the week.

Officials have recovered a body at the scene of a possible drowning at Lake Tyler near Whitehouse.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife confirmed they have pulled a body from Lake Tyler near the Concession Road marina in Whitehouse. A search boat recovered the body which was transported immediately to a nearby ambulance.

Whitehouse Chief of Police Ed Morris says the department received reports around 1 p.m. that a 17-year-old male went under water and did not resurface.

Tyler Police Department, DPS, Texas Game Wardens, Whitehouse Fire Department, EMS and Smith County ESD No. 2 also responded. Texas Parks and Wildlife have taken the lead on the investigation.

Two search boats were deployed and a helicopter was brought in to help assist in the search.
