TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Thousands of people are expected to attend a Thursday night gathering at Green Acres Baptist Church in Tyler, according to the Luis Palau Association.
The RE:NEW is described as a special night of inspiration, prayer, worship, and unity.
The event will be led by international evangelist Andrew Palau. RE:NEW will also feature speaker and teacher Josh White and music from the award-winning band Passion Music and an East Texas community choir, according to event co-chairman Elam Swann.
RE:NEW starts at 7 p.m. Thursday at Green Acres Baptist Church, 1607 Troup Highway. The event is free to attend.
It’s the first of many events leading up to CityFest East Texas, which is set for Oct. 5 and 6. CityFest will take place in downtown Tyler.
“CityFest East Texas is a collaboration of all the churches, schools, individuals, businesses of East Texas to come together to hear about the word of Jesus Christ,” Swann said.
The two-day event will require some big changes to the downtown area, including the temporary removal of the street signal arm at the intersection of Broadway Avenue and Erwin Street. A large stage will be put up in the intersection, along with two big screens. Setup for the festival is set to begin on Oct. 2.
“It will be a great impact on the community. Even after the Palaus, we’re setting programs up, CityServe which will be an ongoing program to address the community’s needs after the 5th and 6th of October after they’re gone," Swann said.
Swann says the Palaus have done more than 400 festivals in 75 countries during the past 50 years. The last time they were in Tyler was in 1995.
“It was such a great experience in ’95 that we want that again this year, and we think it will be even greater,” he said.
