TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Investigators believe a body found in Smith County may have belonged to a homeless veteran.
According to the Smith County Sheriff’s Office, the body was discovered on Feb. 23.
Officials say three juveniles found the body in a wooded area off Highway 69 South of Interstate 20.
The sheriff’s office said the body was that of a homeless individual and was in a state of decomposition therefore unable to be identified.
The body has since been taken to Southwest Forensics in Dallas. The sheriff’s office says they are waiting on dental records from the Department of Veterans Affairs in order to positively identify the body.
