TYLER, TX (KLTV) - The City of Tyler is set to announce a new air carrier and new commercial air service for Tyler Pounds Regional Airport on Tuesday.
Officials with the City of Tyler, which operates the airport, have scheduled a news conference at 10 a.m. to reveal the planned service. Representatives from the unnamed airline are also expected to be present, according to a news release.
American Eagle has been the only carrier providing commercial passenger service to Tyler since United Express ended scheduled flights in 2016, due to a shortage of flight crews and fewer passengers from instability in the oil industry.
The city has spent the last few years working to attract a new airline amid a slide in enplanement numbers. In 2014, Tyler Pounds Regional Airport saw nearly 87 thousand enplanements, though that number dropped to 50 thousand in 2017, according to the FAA.
You can live stream the announcement, beginning at 10 a.m. on East Texas Now.
