PALESTINE, TX (KLTV) - A Palestine Middle School student has the chance to follow her dreams from East Texas to New York and London.

14-year-old Mary Eleanor Homann, who goes by Ellie, is an 8th grader at Palestine Middle School. Her choir teacher, Leslie Hooe, nominated her to be a part of the high school honors performance series after her performances in 7th and 8th grade.

“She opens up her mouth, and the heavens move. She has a really angelic voice,” Hooe said, noting that the middle schooler now competes at varsity level.

The young soprano will be performing at Carnegie Hall in New York City in June and at Royal Festival Hall in London in July. This is a big deal for any student, and but Ellie tried to play it cool when she learned she was being given the opportunity.

“In my brain I was freaking out, but outside I was like ‘yeah, yeah, cool fine,’" Ellie said laughing. “All my family is supporting me and are really excited I get to go. It’s really exciting!”

Hooe says Ellie will sit in hours of rehearsal with a famous director in the choral world, and then they will perform. She noted that choir and the arts get overlooked sometimes due to sports in East Texas. She encourages anyone who might watch this to support Ellie in her adventure.
