LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - The police chief of Cuney has been indicted and arrested on two charges of tampering with government documents.

Gregg County Jail records show Gregory Sinkfield, 47, of Mesquite, was booked into the Gregg County Jail on Monday.

A city employee said Sinkfield was still employed with the city and had no knowledge of the arrest.

Sinkfield answered a call from KLTV but declined to comment on the arrest.

According to an indictment, Sinkfield certified on the East Texas Police Academy Basic Peace Officer Sponsorship form that a woman was employed with Cuney police, knowing that was false.

The director of the East Texas Police Academy in Kilgore deferred comment to the Texas Commission of Law Enforcement. A TCOLE spokeswoman confirmed an investigation against Sinkfield.

Cuney is a town in Cherokee County in between Frankston and Jacksonville.
