There's a new phone app that helps people report illegal dumping here in East Texas.

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - A new cell phone app makes it easier for East Texans to report illegal dumping.

The app, which from the East Texas Council of Governments, is called the RID app. Rid stands for Report Illegal Dumping.

The app is simple to use. Once it is downloaded onto a person’s phone, all he or she has to do is take a photo of the illegal dumping site. Then, after that person fills in the required fields like the date, e-mail address, and phone number, the app records the site’s latitude and longitude. The reports of illegal dumping are anonymous.

The app is available to residents all 14 of the counties served by the East Texas Council of Governments. Those counties include all or part of Anderson, Camp, Cherokee, Gregg, Harrison, Henderson, Marion, Panola, Rains, Rusk, Smith, Upshur, Van Zandt, and Wood counties.
