East Texas Veterans may soon have more convenient access to resources.

TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Work is expected to begin soon on Camp V Tyler, a 20-acre regional campus for East Texas veterans in west Tyler.

According to the East Texas Veteran’s Community Council, the plan is for the campus to have everything from a respite center to resource offices and a horse stable.

“The point it to have a holistic approach,” Susan Campbell, East Texas Veterans Community Council board chair said.

The idea is for Camp V Tyler to give East Texas veterans a one-stop shop created specifically to meet their growing needs.

“Our purpose is to reduce that frustration and anxiety,” Campbell said. “And make that whole process of asking for help, more efficient.”

Campbell also hopes to one day offer transitional housing for veterans returning home.

“They are often young,” Campbell said. “They haven’t had life experiences. Have they ever balanced a bank statement? Have they ever had an interview or written a resume? There are many needs they have.”

The council plans on closing on the property along West Front Street in Tyler in late March. They hope to open Camp V Tyler on July 4, 2019.

“My dream is that this community is very patriotic,” Campbell said. “It’s very generous. And I just feel certain they’re going to step up and make this happen."
