DESOTO, TX (KTRE) - A four to one vot by the Desoto ISD school board made it official for the future of the Marshall Maverick head coach.

The district that once saw national success under Mathis has brought him back hoping to catch lightning ina bottle one more time. Mathis was rumored all day to be named the coach but around 8:50 pm Monday night the district made it official.

In his two season with the Mavericks, Mathis has led Marshall to the Bi-District round of the playoffs in 2017 and the Regional Semifinals in 2018. Before that he was with Chad Morris for two years at SMU as a running backs coach.

But his greatest success might have come while he was previously at Desoto wher ehe created a pipeline of players to Division I college programs. While with the Eagles his first time, Mathis led the school to a 74-18 and consecutive state semifinal appearances in 2012 and 2013. Desoto also gained national number one rankings from several polls.
