Police chiefs, sheriffs set to hold press conference for 100 Club of East Texas
Foundation will support dependents, spouses of officers killed in line of duty

KILGORE, TX (KLTV) - Police chiefs and sheriffs from 20 East Texas counties will hold a press conference at the Kilgore Police Department at 1 p.m. today to show their support for the 100 Club of East Texas.
The 100 Club of East Texas is a non-profit 501(c3) foundation.
“Law enforcement in East Texas has fought hard to improve how we police,” a press release stated. “Unfortunately, we do not always get the support we need from community members or even our governing bodies.”
Citing a preliminary report issued by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, a press release stated that 144 law enforcement officers died in the line of duty in 2018, which is more than the total for 2017.
“Texas was one of four states leading the number of officer deaths with 11 fallen officers,” the press release stated.
According to the press release, a regional group of civic and business leaders came together to form a non-profit organization to support dependents and spouses of officers who are killed or catastrophically injured in the line of duty.
“The foundation will provide support to law enforcement in 20 East Texas counties,” the press release stated. “As the foundation grows, the foundation will provide financial assistance for training and equipment not budgeted through governing bodies.”
