TYLER, TX (KLTV) -
One year after an East Texas murder, and nine hundred miles away from the scene, a suspected killer is now behind bars.
U.S. marshals arrested 52-year old Dwight Scott in Gary, Indiana.
An arrest warrant for murder was issued against Scott for the December 31st, 2017 death of 50-year old Tracy Lynn Reedy of Kilgore.
To the relief of Reedy's family members, 52 year old Dwight Scott had been taken into custody in Gary Indiana.
The end to the one year search for him came from an East Texas tip.
"We actually got a crimes-toppers tip that came in, told us where he was at Gary Indiana. And I've been working with U.S marshals. and they went to that location and made the arrest," says Kilgore police lieutenant Roman Roberson.
New Years Eve 2017 and Kilgore police are called to Meadowbrook drive, where they find the bullet ridden, face down, body of Tracy Lynn Reedy.
For months, family members had held vigils, and tried to help police by providing social media information that Scott had ties to Midwestern states like Wisconsin, Illinois and Indiana.
Kilgore police reached out to agencies there.
"Criminals don't know jurisdictions, so we have to use those resources well. We were getting regular tips, sometimes just a step behind," Roberson says.
But no luck, until this week.
"We knew it was a matter of time before we got him located. If you murder somebody, people are going to tell us where you're at," the lieutenant says.
Family hopes Scotts arrest will bring closure to reedy's death through the justice system.
"We're glad this has come to and end, of course now it will be turned over to the Gregg county district attorneys office. and that's where justice will be rendered," said Roberson.
Dwight Scott remains in custody in Indiana.
There is no word at this time on when he will be extradited back to East Texas.
