NHL’s Winter Classic coming to Texas
The Dallas Stars will host the 2020 Winter Classic.

DALLAS, TX (KLTV/KTRE) - The Dallas Stars will make history next New Year’s Day with the National Hockey League’s 2020 Winter Classic.

The League announced Tuesday morning that the Dallas Stars would be hosting next year’s annual New Year’s Day event.

The game will be different than any other Stars game that is normally hosted at the American Airline Center in downtown.

This game will be just a couple miles away at the world-famous Cotton Bowl.

This will be the southern most game that the NHL has played in the Classic, which started back in 2008. That year the game was held at the Ralph Wilson Stadium, home of the Buffalo Bills.

This will be the fourth time a historic college football stadium is hosting the event. Michigan Stadium has hosted it twice and Notre Dame Stadium is the host of this year‘s event.

The Stars' opponent has not been announced yet but many fans have speculated the league might consider the Minnesota Wild, considering the Stars' move to Dallas in the mid-1990s from their former home in Minnesota where they were known as the North Stars.
