LUFKIN, TX (KTRE) - Deputies are investigating after about 20 pews were reported stolen from a church in the Lufkin area.
The missing pews were discovered on Christmas Day when keepers of the Old Union Road Cemetery entered the building and found the pews missing. The building formerly served as Old Union Primitive Baptist Church. It is now used as a meeting area for groundskeepers at the cemetery.
According to one of the groundskeepers for the property, the pews are antiques that are priced between $200 and $600.
Angelina County Sheriff’s Office began investigating the incident after a report was filed regarding the pews.
It is unclear who owns the building at this time, and the sheriff’s office is investigating.
