HALLSVILLE, TX (KLTV) - Hallsville Fire Marshal’s Office has initially ruled that the fire which destroyed a home and a vacant hotel building was not intentionally set.
The fire was reported around 7:40 p.m. Sunday. Fire Marshal Thomas Mock said it appeared it started in the kitchen or attic of a brick house and spread to an old, vacant hotel building that was only 10 ft. away.
By the time firefighters arrived, flames had spread throughout both buildings. The home was badly damaged, and fire crews brought in a backhoe to collapse the hotel in on itself to make sure the flames were out.
No was home at the time, and no injuries were reported. The homeowner told investigators he used the old hotel building as storage.
