TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Law enforcement believe a suspect arrested in connection to a recent shooting in Tyler is affiliated with a criminal street gang, according to the arrest warrant.
The warrant states that Kristian Perdomo, 25, of Tyler, was found in a Tyler Police Department database as being a gang member as of 2015.
Perdomo was arrested on Dec. 16 and charged with aggravated assault after he allegedly shot a man in the Westwood Shopping Center.
During a press conference on Dec. 17, the Smith County Sheriff’s Office and the Tyler Police Department reported they believe Perdomo is also connected to a recent string of homicides that have occurred over the past two weeks.
“We have a high level of confidence we have the shooter in custody,” Sheriff Larry Smith said Monday in a press conference.
At about 4:10 p.m. on Dec. 16, Tyler police responded to the Taco Bell, located at 500 South Southwest Loop 323 and West Front Street, in response to a reported shooting.
According to the arrest affidavit, a witness at the scene reported that he had seen a man walk up to the victim, identified later by police as 45-year-old Bradley Brockman. The suspect was wearing a black hoodie and had a red bandanna covering his face.
The arrest affidavit reported the witness heard a gunshot and later saw the victim fall. According to the arrest affidavit, Brockman had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to a local hospital and was reportedly “seriously injured.”
The witness observed the suspect walk to a silver 2000 Toyota Avalon and drive away from the scene. The witness followed the suspected vehicle for some time before losing it, according to the arrest affidavit.
A Tyler police officer later observed the suspected vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Highway 64 West, just past Loop 49, according to the affidavit. During the the traffic stop, a receipt for .380 Federal ammunition was found in the car and Perdomo was detained.
Perdomo was arrested and booked into the Smith County jail. His bond has been set at $1 million.
