TYLER, TX (KLTV) - There were a lot of festive four-legged friends in downtown Tyler today as dogs dressed in their Sunday best and posed with one of Santa’s helpers.
Santa ‘paws’ came to town Saturday and checked quite a few dogs off of his naughty and nice list. From 100-pound German Sheppard’s to a teacup chihuahua; all were welcome to sit in Santa Paws' lap.
“I have two rescue dogs at home that I’ve had for years and they are great animals, all dogs just need some love,” Santa’s helper says.
It’s the real reason for the season. SPCA, along with East Texas Brewery hosted this event to spread the word.
“We are encouraging everyone to adopt, don’t shop,” SPCA of East Texas employee Cathy Sampson says.
During the winter months, more and more stray dogs are left at shelters.
“You are going to hear almost 99% of the time that we are full,” Sampson says.
That leaves those strays homeless on Christmas.
“When you adopt an animal, it’s not their past that’s important, it’s their future,” Sampson says. After a dog or cat finds their forever home, memories are made, noses are painted, and pictures with Santa last a lifetime.
There is always an opportunity to give back and volunteer or donate to the SPCA of East Texas.
