LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) - Very quietly, an annual East Texas rite of fall, and favorite of bargain hunters, is being held along an East Texas highway this weekend.
It's the fall historic Highway 80 garage sale.
Usually loaded with roadside vendors, highway 80 was sparse for bargain hunters, as the rainy weather had stopped many from setting up.
“Trying to display some furniture and some small vintage items. It really depends on what people are looking for, and the weather of course,” says vendor Virginia Pattullo in Longview.
"People are always scared of the rain. But I've set up the last 4 or 5 years in the rain, I've always done well," says another vendor.
Though there were ominous skies, a few vendors decided to chance it, to see if it would pay off.
"We thought we would brave the weather, put up a tent out here, keep things dry and the tents working out very well," says Longview vendor Gus Marinos.
For many, the twice a year event is a way of making a substantial profit along the route.
“We’re only a few out here and folks are certainly welcome, and they’ve been stopping since yesterday,” Marinos says.
The sale continues along highway 80 on Sunday.
