TYLER, TX (KLTV) - Tyler police have arrested a suspect involved in a late-night shooting near Loop 323 that left one man injured.
Tyler police arrested 35-year-old Cory Lee McDaniel, of Tyler, in connection to the shooting. McDaniel was taken into custody at about 2:30 a.m. Friday and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Tyler police say they responded to E. Erwin and NNE Loop 323 on Thursday night where a shooting was reported.
The shooting occurred around 8:24 p.m., police say. When police arrived, they located a 39-year-old white male, identified as Dustin Massey, 39, of Tyler, who had been shot multiple times.
According to police, McDaniel and Massey had gotten into an argument and ended up at a gas station parking lot on E. Erwin and NNE Loop 323. Tyler police reported both individuals then fired weapons at each other, with about 15 rounds exchanged between the two. Police determined that McDaniel was the aggressor and Massey was acting out of self-defense.
After police found him, Massey was taken to a local hospital by EMS. It is reported that he is stable.
McDaniel was booked into the Smith County jail under a $300,000 bond.
