Longview Shelter Tries to Retrain Homeless

The Highway 80 Rescue mission in Longview is beginning a program to help the homeless empower themselves so that they never have to find a warm place to sleep or their next meal.

For 47 years the mission in Longview has helped people in need, by providing shelter and a hot meal and ministry to troubled people down on their luck.

New director Tony Chung has developed the New Creation Program, which is designed to retrain and give job skills to the homeless, and give them a hope for a brighter future.

Less than a month into the job, Chung has found that everyone in this situation has a sad story, but regardless their back grounds he believes that the mission can help many start new lives.

The mission averages around 20 men a week at their main location, and around 6 to 7 women and their children at the hope haven center.
