Students all the way from Germany went behind the bars of the Smith County Jail to learn more about American Law Enforcement Saturday.
Twenty four police students from Berlin were given a tour of the jail. They were shown how Smith County handles security, booking, and police procedures. For the students, who ranged in age from 24 to 27, the East Texas way of handling criminals was part of their education.
As for why they came to East Texas, their police captain explained.
"I'm a Texan," Senior Captain Manuel Hauffe of the Berlin Police admitted.
"Well, I'm nearly a Texan. About twenty years ago, I was an exchange student at Lindale, Texas. I graduated from Lindale High School. I love this place."
