MOUNT VERNON, TX (KLTV) - An East Texas couple got married before the outbreak of World War II and have remained committed to marriage for 70 years.  A quiet, sweet couple, Velvin and Mary Bolin of Mount Vernon were married on March 6, 1939.

"It's been awful nice," said Velvin.  "We've had a good time and are still in good health."

"First two years you have to learn how to get along, have fun and enjoy one another," said Mary.  Saturday, friends and family came together to celebrate their 70th anniversary.

"To see how much they love each other and how much they still spend time together holding hands and laughing together is awesome," said daughter Mary Jo Bolin-Huff.  So how do they do it?  They say with a sense of humor.

"Now, she is a little bit mean, but I guess they all are," said Velvin.

"How old am I?," said Mary.  "It just worked out this way.  We just loved one another and have fun."  The toughest part of their marriage was when Velvin went off to fight in WWII.

"Yeah, he was missing in action, and I was worried," said Mary.

"She's been a good one, still a good one," said Velvin.  Velvin carried a picture of Mary while he was a POW in Germany.  A picture he still carries today.

"I still got it to this day right here in my billfold," said Velvin.  For the Bolin's, love doesn't fade, it gets better with time.  The Bolin's have a rich family legacy three children, seven grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
