UPDATE: Paraplegic and wife unable to escape burning house

UPDATE 3:44: Firefighters have contained the grass fire that started up again earlier this afternoon.

UPDATE 1:55pm: The house that killed two East Texans early this morning has rekindled and set the woods next to it on fire. We will keep you updated as we have more information.

A paraplegic and his wife were killed in an overnight house fire in Smith County. There names have now been released.

Fire officials tell us three people were inside when the fire broke out, 1 managed to escape. According to firr marshalls, Billy Joe Page Jr.,55, and Charlotte Page, 58, were unable to escape.

It happened shortly before two this morning on County Road 1297 in Smith County, and fire marshals say Billy Page Jr. was a 400 pound paraplegic man.

Firefighters from Dixie and Lindale responded to the blaze. Authorities on the scene tell us this is a rented home and have been told the family inside kept an electric heater near the bed.

The fire appears to be accidental.

Emercency officials had responded to calls from the couple before because of ongoing medical issues. The wife had recently experienced a stroke.
