MINEOLA, TX (KLTV) - They raised thousands with a lemonade stand, and now East Texans raised a little more for a fellow East Texan battling cancer.
Folks packed the Mineola Civic Center for this fundraiser for Jason Hightower, who owns KMOO radio in Mineola, was diagnosed with brain cancer. Proceeds from the dinner, auctions, and bake sale will go towards his medical expenses. Hightower did not attend the event, and some say, oddly enough, that is a good thing.
"If he were here today, he would be throwing a absolute fit, I promise," said Amy Castleberry, KMOO's business manager. "It's never been about him, he's never wanted it to be spotlight on him."
"It'd be overwhelming," said Hans Hansen, Jason's father-in-law. "It'd be hard for him to take, because he has a hard time asking for help, but he doesn't mind giving it."
