One Killed in Gregg County Pedestrian Accident

A tragic accident in Gregg County last night, as two good Samaritans trying to help someone with a motorist with a broken down car are hit by a car. One of the men was killed. It happened around 7 o'clock last night on Highway 322 near the East Texas Regional Airport. The men pulled over to help the driver of a truck who had pulled into the median. Police say at some point one of them stepped out into oncoming traffic. Both men were struck by a car driven by a Rusk County Jail employee. 19 year old Keith Pyland of Diana died at the scene.  He was employed at Longview's Marble Slab creamery.  20 year old Justin Hawkins was hospitalized with a broken leg and concussion. No charges have been filed, and funeral services for Pyland have been set for 11 a-m Friday at Walnut Creek Baptist Church north of Diana.
