EAST TEXAS (KLTV) - Last week, Representative Leo Berman filed a resolution he says takes back rights as a sovereign state under the 10th amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Berman says Texas is one of 26 states fighting for such a bill because they fear what lies ahead.

For example, Berman said the Obama administration is planning to require gun owners to register with the federal government.

"We don't want anybody in Washington knowing where every single one of our guns are," said Rep. Berman. "That's what happened in Germany, that's what happened in England, that's what happened in Australia. Take away everybody's guns and people are helpless at that time."

"We have our own constitution, and like the 49 other states, we are a sovereign state," said Berman. "We govern ourselves except for those things that the U.S. Government, or federal government has reserved to itself in the U.S. Constitution and that's not many things."

Berman said Texas would also like to avoid a federal hate crime's bill.
