Nacogdoches PD to host car seat safety event

NACOGDOCHES, TX - The Nacogdoches Police Department will be hosting a free child safety seat check up event at Wal-mart on Friday, March 6. The event is being co-hosted with the Agri-Life Extension office of the Texas A&M System, along with the Fredonia Rotary Club and the Texas Department of Transportation.

"Statistics show that over 85% of child car seats are not installed correctly for one reason or another," said Nacogdoches Police Lt. Dan Taravella. "We will be there to help educate parents and help them with their car seat questions."

The event will be held from 10:00am until 1:30pm in the northwestern corner of the Wal-mart parking lot in Nacogdoches. There will also be a similar car seat check up event at Belk's in Lufkin the day before, on Thursday, March 5, from 10:00am until 1:30pm.

"We are asking any parents who need their car seat checked to bring the vehicle the seat will be installed in, the vehicle's owner manual, the car seat and the child who will be using the car seat," Taravella said. "The Nacogdoches Police Department holds car seat checks about twice a year, free of charge, to help better educate the community and to make our kids a little safer. We are always grateful to the staff and management at Wal-mart for allowing us to use their facilities for these events."
