Gilmer Yamboree Traffic Problem

All things are in place for Gilmer's annual tribute to the "potato wanna-be," the yam, in the 65th annual East Texas Yamboree, the biggest tourist draw for Gilmer each year.

But threatening the event this year is road construction by the department of transportation.  It's choking traffic down to a crawl in the downtown areas on Highway 271. Torn up roadways and detours will take extra time and force visitors to park farther away, something older visitors may not be willing to do.

Already good crowds have turned out for the first few events.  Yamboree organizers hope the construction will not keep visitors away and that soon the events and rides will be full of people.
