WOOD, TX (KLTV) - A Wood County grand jury has returned a murder indictment in the first degree against 31 year old Alvin Milliken who is accused in the November 2008 shooting death of 53 year old Joy Elizabeth Glasgow. Milliken was originally charged with capital murder.
The following is the story we reported on November 22, 2008:
Retaliation - that's what Wood County authorities say they believe is the motive behind the shooting death of a Winnsboro woman.
Authorities charged 31 year old Alvin Milliken of Mount Vernon Thursday with capital murder. He's accused of shooting and killing 53 year old Joy Elizabeth Glasgow sometime over the weekend. Thursday, KLTV 7's Molly Reuter received a copy of the arrest affidavit, and we've learned Milliken was dating Glasgow's daughter, and had a history of violence.
Wood County authorities say 53 year old Joy Glasgow was actually a witness in at least one of the criminal cases pending against Milliken.
According to the arrest affidavit, in the past year, Glasgow's daughter has filed two separate police reports against Milliken, her boyfriend, for abusing her.
The arrest affidavit goes on to say, "The defendant had exercised control over the victim's daughter for the entire relationship and the victim was the only thing standing in the way of the defendant's money and total domination of Glasgow's daughter."
Authorities say they believe Milliken shot Glasgow twice, once in the face sometime late Friday night, or early Saturday morning. According to the affidavit, Glasgow's daughter told Mount Vernon police Monday morning that her boyfriend admitted to killing her mother.
The daughter told police that the defendant asked her to withdraw cash at an ATM on two separate occasions.
At that time, the daughter told police the defendant told her he killed her mother at her house and if she did not do what he told her to do, he would kill her, too.
Now, authorities say Milliken himself did not admit to killing Glasgow. But in the affidavit, authorities say they believe because of Milliken's past history of violence, he is lying.
Authorities believe Milliken may have killed Glasgow while her daughter was asleep Friday night.
Milliken is being held in the Wood County Jail under $1,000,000.00 bond.
