Smith Co. Evaluates Huricane Evacuations

East Texans played a big role in helping victims of Hurricane Lili. On Monday, Smith County released its findings from a post emergency review.

Tyler housed 185 medical evacuees in local hospitals and nursing homes. The county took in another 220 evacuees in Red Cross shelters set up a local churches. Hundreds more waited out the storm in East Texas hotels.

Smith County Fire Marshall Jim Seaton says this is the first time a large scale evacuation has extended as far north at East Texas.
