High winds caused problems for East Texas firefighters

High winds caused problems for Cherokee and Wood County firefighters.

A large grass fire charred nearly 100 acres of pasture land in Wood County. Seven fire departments responded to the blaze which started shortly before noon on Highway 80, about five miles west of Hawkins. Firefighters had a difficult time containing the blaze.

Another large fire in Cherokee County also keept firefighters busy this afternoon. Authorities told KLTV 7 News that the blaze was located about ten miles outside of Jacksonville on Highway 79.

Both fires have been contained.
