Progress continues on new homes for Tyler softball teams

An update to a story KLTV 7 Sports first brought you last June.

Area softball players have one new field, with two more on the way.

Construction continues at Faulkner Park, giving a home to the former ''Tyler Fastpitch Association.''

Now called the Rose Country Girl's Softball Association, the girls will soon play on three new home fields.

Safety concerns were raised last spring at the girls old home at Fun Forest Park. The city of Tyler, sponsor and donors stepped up.

"The girls are going to be extremely proud of what the city of Tyler has come through and done for them," association president Anthony Spring said. "Our high schools matter of fact, both John Tyler and Robert E. Lee are going to play their home games there starting next month. The fever is already starting."

The association applied for a grant with Major League Baseball to help construct the third field. They are still waiting for a response.

Sponsors and donors are still needed to help construct the last two fields.
