Relying on strong faith after fire destroys everything

A fire destroys an East Texas couple's home, leaving behind a pile of rubble.  They share with us their incredible faith, which is helping them get through this difficult time.

It started around 6:30 p.m., Friday on FM 346.  That's about a mile east of Highway 69 and west of Whitehouse.  The Smith's say they are relying on their faith to rebuild their lives.

Sifting through a life's worth of memories and treasures.  Some things they can salvage, but most everything is destroyed, including two cars in Ed Smith's garage.  That's exactly where the fire started.

"When I opened the garage door, between the house and the garage, man it was already about 50% engulfed in fire," said Smith.  "I hollered at her to call 9-1-1, and I slammed the door because smoke started billowing in the house."  Fortunately Ed and his wife got out safely.  Fire crews fought the fierce flames, but they spread at a furious speed.

"Nothing you could do, just watch it burn up," said Smith.  The Smith's home they had built 13 years ago, is a total loss.

"For some reason the Lord Jesus allowed this to happen," said Smith.  "And when do we grow spiritually?  Not when we're out on the lake fishing.  I enjoy the lord's beauty, but it's in these times.  He allowed this to happen, He'll show us why.  There's a reason for Him allowing it."  All the Smith's ask for are prayers to help lift them through this tragedy.  Nothing to do, but lean on family, friends and their unbreakable faith.

Firefighters are still investigating the cause.  Fortunately, the Smith's say they are insured.
