AUSTIN, TX - Attorney General Greg Abbott filed action to keep an unlicensed home warranty company from continuing to operate illegally.

National Home Protection, Inc., a New York based company, was charged with unlawfully doing business in Texas.  The Attorney General is also seeking restitution for homeowners who bought the company's services, but did not recieve the promised benifits.

According to state investigators, even after they were informed on the requirements to do business, National Home Protection continued to sell contracts to Texans.

The company is charged with violating the Texas Occupations Code and the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Act (DTPA).

In addition to homeowner restitution, the state is seeking civil penalties under the Occupations Code and up to $20,000 for each violation of the DTPA.

Texas homeowners who believe they have been defrauded by this or similar practices may call the Attorney General's toll-free complaint hotline at (800) 252-8011 or file a complaint online at www.texasattorneygeneral.gov.
