Capital Murder Conviction

After just an hour of deliberations, a smith county jury finds finds a Tyler man guilty of capital murder.

34 year old Gregory Russeau is convicted of killing 75 year old James Syvertson at his Tyler car repair business, back in May of 2001. Smith County prosecutors based their case on how Russeau had at least 3 hours to commit the murder, discrediting the defense's timeline. Also, Russeau's handprints, hair and DNA evidence were all found at the crime scene. Tuesday morning , the punishment phase of the trial begins.

Russeau could face the death penalty.
